Wimborne Awarded Gold in Town category of South & South-East In Bloom 2019

Wimborne was awarded its six consecutive gold award in the regional South & South-East In Bloom competition awards ceremony held in Brighton on 13th September 2019.

This year the emphasis in the marking scheme had changed from that used in previous years; for 2019's competition 30% of the marks were available for work undertaken relating to environmental issues, 30% for community involvement and the remaining 40% for horticulture. During their visit in July the judges were introduced to the activities undertaken by Wimborne War on Waste, The Minster Environmental Group, The Library, Dorset Wildlife Trust and the army of unnamed individuals who quietly go round picking up litter, cleaning the river and all the other little touches that make Wimborne a great place in which to live and work.

Everyone who helps keep the town looking good and helps nurture the environmental responsibility shown across the area can justifiably feel proud of achieving this high standard and that it has been recognised as such at regional competition level.

We also congratulate Cranleigh In Bloom, winner of the Town category for 2019.

Richard Nunn speaking after the Awards Ceremony said, "the efforts and hard work of the Committee, their spouses, members of the charity and our volunteers were justly rewarded when a sixth consecutive Gold Award was presented in Brighton. On a personal basis I was most surprised and privileged to be awarded 'The Outstanding Contribution Award' and can only put this down to the superb support given by all involved with Wimborne in Bloom. Massive thanks to everyone for such support and all the hours given so willingly for our Town."

July 11th - Judging for South & South-East In Bloom

judges meet the in bloom committee

Two Judges from South and South East in Bloom Derek Beer and Peter Holman visited Wimborne on Thursday 11th July to judge the Town in the Regional in Bloom Competition. They were greeted at the Town Hall by the Mayor, Cllr Shane Bartlett along with Chairman of Wimborne in Bloom, Richard Nunn and other members of the Wimborne in Bloom Committee.

Following a presentation on Wimborne in Bloom the judges went on a tour of the Town which included a visit to Wimborne First School and the site of the new School to see the building in progress and to hear about the plans for the grounds surrounding the building. A drive through the Allenview Estate, a walk along the River Allen and through Willow Walk to Crown Mead. They visited the Priest House Museum Garden and walked up the High Street to The Square, stopping to hear Town Crier Chris Brown giving them a welcome shout from the corner of the Minster Green. A visit then to the Leaze Allotments before culminating at the Model Town.

"All seemed to go according to plan" commented Richard Nunn after the Judges had left but as normal they gave very little away and we shall have to wait until the middle of September for the results.
